Perfecting the Quantum Processor
We are increasingly confident that there are no fundamental obstacles to building a quantum computer, in which the peculiar phenomena of quantum superposition and quantum entanglement can be used as powerful resources for the fast execution of algorithms. However, realizing the necessary physical conditions in which the ideal action of quantum computation can be realized has been a challenging effort undertaken in many labs over the last twenty years. I will give an example of how superconducting quantum circuits, through many generations of refinement, have come closer to our goal.
